percakapan bahasa inggris 2 orangToni : Hei Rina, do you ever go to a funfair before?
Rina : Yes, of course. I often go to a funfair since I was a little
Toni : Did you come to any funfair lately?
Rina : No, I have never gone to any funfair lately and even for the last three years.
Toni : So, your last funfair visit is three years ago?
Rina : Yup, it has been a while since my last visit to a funfair. So, what about you Toni? Do you often come to a funfair?
Toni : Hmmm actually, I don’t really often go to a funfair and just like you Rina, my last visit is about three years ago. It was when I was still a junior high school student
Rina : Heehee me too.
Toni : Who did you go to the funfair with, Rina? Did you go by yourself?
Rina : Of course not. There would be no fun if I go to a place such a funfair all alone. I usually go to a funfair with my friends
Toni : Haha you’re right. So, what kind of ride do you like to play at the funfair, Rina?
Rina : One of my favorite rides is the Ferris wheel. I really love when the wheel brought me so high up to the sky so I could see the crowd from above my seat and see everything from that height. When we reached up on the highest part, I and my girl friends sometimes shouted loudly. The height was terrifying but also exciting at the same time.
Toni : Hahaha you seemed to really enjoy the ride through your story
Rina : Of course, Toni. So, how about you? What is the ride you like the most?
Toni : Hmmm I think I like that Ferris wheel ride too, the game stands were also fun, but I think the best part of a funfair is the ghost house ride.
Rina : Ghost house ride? Oh no, I hate that ride. The ghosts scared me out of my wits
Toni : Hahahaha you are too exaggerating, Rina. Don’t say that you didn’t know that the ghosts were fake?
Rina : Hey, don’t tease me like that! Of course, I knew that those ghosts were fake and most of them were just people who imitated ghosts. But, although I knew it’s fake, I still couldn’t stand seeing their ghost make-ups and costumes. The last time I went to the ghost house ride with my friends, I ended up crying as we got out of the ride.
Toni: Hahaha you’re funny, Rina.
Rina: There is nothing funny about crying of getting scared, Toni.
Toni: Haha okay, okay. Hey, I heard that there was a merry funfair in town near our school. Let’s go there this Saturday with others!
Rina : Really? I think I’m free this Saturday, Okay I’m going
Toni : Great! Okay, I’ll tell others.

[Mrs. Ratna and his little daughter, Amelia is going to a traditional market]
Amelia : Um Mommy, why are we going to a traditional market? Why don’t we go to a supermarket? Supermarket sells vegetables and fruits too, right?
Mrs. Ratna: That’s right, my dear. But supermarket generally doesn’t give us too many foodstuffs to choose. Traditional market is much more complete than supermarket.
Amelia : But it’s hot, smelly, muddy, and dirty in here compared to the supermarket that’s clean and cool.
Mrs. Ratna: This is what is called the real shopping at the market. When I was at your age, I always came with Grandma to go shopping at a traditional market.
Amelia : Really?
Mrs. Ratna: Yeah. Now let’s go to that green-grocery stall first.
Amelia : Yes, Mom [smiling]
[At green-grocery stall]
Seller : Good morning, Ma’am. Do you need something?
Mrs. Ratna: Yes, I need a cabbage, half a kilogram of carrots and potatoes, and some leeks.
Seller : Um… let me see. Here you are, Ma’am. Do you need anything else?
Mrs. Ratna: I think that’s all
Seller : So…. these all cost Rp. 20,000.
Mrs. Ratna: Here you are.
Seller : Here is your change, Ma’am. Thank you and come again.
Mrs. Ratna: You’re welcome.

Amelia : Now what else to buy, Mom?
Mrs. Ratna: We need meat. Let’s go to butcher stall.
[At butcher stall]
Mrs. Ratna: Hey, good morning, Mr. Joko!
Mr. Joko: Oh, good morning, Mrs. Ratna! Are you going to buy meat?
Mrs. Ratna: Yes, I need half a kg of meat. I need tenderloin. Is every meat sold here really fresh?
Mr. Joko: Of course! I always sell fresh meats that I get directly from supplier every single day. Are you afraid I’m selling gelonggongan meat? Don’t be worried. You can see my meats are all hung up. This is a proof that I’m not selling such a gelonggongan meat. If it’s a gelonggongan meat, there will be water drops falling from the meat. And if you touch or squeeze the meat, it’s dry, rubbery, and coming with fresh blood color.
Mrs. Ratna: [smiling] Alright, I trust you that these meats are really fresh.
Mr. Joko: Alright then. You want me to chop the meat or you do it yourself?
Mrs. Ratna: It’s okay. I will chop the meat myself.
Mr. Joko: Alright, here you are. The price for the meat is Rp 35,000.
Mrs. Ratna: Here you are. Thank you, Mr. Joko.
Mr. Joko: You’re welcome

Mrs. Ratna: One lesson for you, Dear. If you’re going to shop at market like this, you have to check the freshness of anything you’re going to buy first.
Amelia : Alright, Mom!
Mrs. Ratna: By the way, do you know what I’m going to cook?
Amelia: Um…. Meat, carrots, cabbage, potatoes…. You’re going to cook vegetable soup!
Mrs. Ratna: Smart girl!
Amelia : Yum… I like it!

Yudi : It’s okay, Tia. We still have next semester holidays, right? Maybe your parents would have time for you on the next holidays.
Siti : It’s alright, Guys. I didn’t feel disappointed at all for that. I was even really happy I could help my parents to work on our bakery shop. Plus, on the next holidays, they promised me that we could go to Bali.

[After school]
Percakapan Bahasa Inggris tentang kesehatanFitri : [Sigh] School really makes me hungry. Let’s get something delicious to eat!
Ratih : Good idea! It’s lunch time anyway. Do you have any idea of delicious foods for our lunch?
Bobi : Hey, what about that food stall?
Ratih : Huh? Wait a minute. That is fast food stall, isn’t it?
Bobi : Yeah. Come on! My stomach can’t wait any longer.
Ratih : Why fast food? Can we find healthier foods for our lunch?
Bobi : Nope, I think there are no healthier food choices around. I heard that it sells delicious cheese burgers and French fries too. Let’s go! I can’t stand hearing my stomach roaring.
Fitri : Come on, Ratih. Hamburger sounds delicious.
Ratih : [sigh]

Ratih : Oh my, Bobi. You ordered two large cheese hamburgers, French fries, and coke. Are you going to eat all these junk foods?
Bobi : Of course! I’m a man. I need more foods.
Ratih : Do you ever think what kind of danger that will come for you by eating these foods?
Bobi : Um… overly full?
Ratih : No….. Bobi. These foods will bring bad effects for your precious health.
Bobi : Huh? What are the bad effects anyway?
Ratih : I join the “healthy life” club that attempts to motivate its members to live a healthy lifestyle. We were taught to stay away from junk foods since junk foods like foods you are going to eat now are known to be very bad for health.
Bobi : Why is that?
Ratih : You know that these foods contain high calories, fats, and sugar, but are really low in nutritional value. Due to the high calories, the more you eat these foods the bigger your body will be. It is called obesity. These foods are also high in salt. If you really love eating these foods, they will lead you to a risk of high blood pressure.
Fitri : Wow, can it get worse then?
Ratih : Of course! Moreover, if you consume these junk foods day in, day out, then the saturated fats will accumulate in your body, especially in your blood vessels. Day after day the fats will pile up in your blood vessels and eventually block your blood stream and make it clogged. If this happens on the blood vessels on your brain, you will then get a brain stroke. The worst one is if you have high blood pressure and the fats block the blood stream on your heart, then you can get a fatal heart strike that can lead you to death.
Bobi : [Gulp] is that…. Is that true?
Ratih : there is no use if I tell fake stories.
Bobi : Alright, I think you’re right. I have to start to go with a healthy lifestyle.
Fitri : Whoa, thanks for that information, Ratih. You really opened our eyes.
Bobi : So, what should I do with all these foods? I haven’t even eaten them yet.
Ratih : I heard you have dogs. Maybe they will like it.
Bobi : [sigh] Oh, great~

Yuni : Yeah. Fortunately we managed to find the nearest bus shelter on our way to take cover from the rain. If we didn’t we would have been completely soaked.
Haris : That’s right, Yuni. By the way, why is weather in Jakarta really unpredictable lately?
Yuni : Huh? What do you mean by unpredictable?
Haris : This morning I watched weather forecast program. The reporter said that today Jakarta would be cloudy all the day and without any possibility of raining.
Yuni : Maybe you got it wrong, Haris. Jakarta is divided into 5 different regions. And each of those regions usually has different weather forecast. We are in West Jakarta, so you might have watched the weather forecast besides of West Jakarta.
Haris : No, Yuni. I’m really sure it was a weather forecast for West Jakarta. Plus, I have another proof here. Here it is… I just browsed the internet to find out today’s weather forecast by using my mobile phone. See… it says that today would be cloudy. It doesn’t say any chance of raining today. Moreover, we should have been in drought season by this period.
Yuni : Wow, you look very serious with this weather problem, Haris.
Haris : Of course, Yuni. I have an appointment with my friend at 04.00 PM later. I need to go to his place then. Due to the weather forecast program on the TV I watched this morning; I decided not to bring an umbrella. So, if it’s still raining like this, I’m going to be really late to go there and wringing-wet.
Yuni : Oh, that’s too bad, Haris. Unfortunately I didn’t bring umbrella either. I suppose this is what is called extreme weather pattern.
Haris : Extreme weather pattern?
Yuni : Yes, extreme weather pattern. The factor of extreme weather pattern is the one that usually brings on unpredictability of weather patterns. You are right, Haris. As you can see, weathers lately are really unpredictable. When we woke up in the morning, the sky was really bright and blue. Suddenly, three hours later the sky went dark and the day rained in torrent.
Haris : That’s true.
Yuni : Few days ago, I was also tricked by the weather. That morning sky was really gloom, I thought that hard rain would come all day long, so I decided to cancel my outing plan. Unfortunately, the fact was that day didn’t rain and sky suddenly went bright.
Haris : I know what you felt, Yuni. Then the one who should be blamed is the weather forecast program! They told us wrong news.
Yuni : You’re funny, Harris. It’s just a forecast anyway, not an exact news.
Haris : But…
Yuni : All you can do now is praying. We pray for the rain to stop soon.

Yanti : Well, before my business goes this big, I also experienced hard times. At the first time starting out my bakery, my factory where I made the bakery foods was in my own house’s kitchen. I did everything by myself. I made the dough, I baked the dough, I packed the bakery foods, I marketed and distributed my bakery foods to food stalls to be resold all by my self. I tried my best to satisfy people and make them love my bakery foods.
Heri : And then… what happened next?
Yanti : Over time, many people began to like my bakery foods. Seeing that opportunity, with adequate fund of bank loan and driven by strong will, I decided to build and open up my own bakery. It wasn’t still a large bakery. I stopped selling my bakery foods to the food stalls and began to sell them in my own small bakery.
Heri : Did many people come to buy right after you opened the bakery?
Yanti : It was like I needed to start over again. I had to introduce my new-open bakery to people once more. I made brochures and leaflets to get people know my bakery. And…. finally, people started to come over my bakery. My bakery customers then increased in number by the help of mouth-to-mouth promotions. That was how my marketing strategy worked.
Heri : Wow, weren’t you overwhelmed to handle those customers all by yourself?
Yanti : Of course, I had trouble to meet customer’s demands. Therefore, I decided to employ workers to work on my bakery. I started out employing 3 workers; 2 workers to work with me making the bakery foods back in the kitchen, and the rest became cashier and salesclerk that serve customers.
Heri : Do you need more workers then?
Yanti : Of course, my scale of production was getting massive over time. Therefore, I started to employ more workers, enlarge and trim up my bakery, enhance my business strategy until today.
Heri : What do you consider as the most important thing in running your bakery business?
Yanti : Definitely, costumer’s satisfaction. I wouldn’t have run my business smoothly if I belittled customer’s satisfaction. One satisfaction of a customer is enough to attract other customers to come.
Heri : That’s great, Yanti. Thank you for sharing. I wish your story can be helpful for me someday.
Yanti : You’re welcome, Heri.
